A rustic-elegant coastal weekend retreat
The objective for this waterfront Southampton NY cottage was to create a rustic-elegant coastal weekend retreat for a young family. Their interest in boating and everything related to water activities is displayed by various nautical accessories and design elements. A key focus was to keep things casual and durable to allow for easy living and a soon-to-be expansion of the family with a first child. Calming blues and greens are used throughout the main spaces to help capture the essence of the seaside location. The design improvements called for a complete ‘gut’ renovation which included removal of load bearing walls, relocation of bathrooms and laundry and remodel of the kitchen. Custom cabinetry with focal features such as a stone basin in the powder room combines traditional and contemporary elements. With standard ceiling height throughout, new sliding doors and window treatments were added for greater access to the outdoor entertainment space, and to allow as much exposure as possible to the light created by sun reflecting off the water.
